This piece is great. The reflection in the water is a great touch. The shading and highlighting is awesome and the anatomy is definitely accurate. The blurring of the background definitely brings out Maren more in the image. Excellent job, and I hope the other judges like this piece as much as I do. I gotta give it a 9.7. Good luck ^-^

Life. It's a love/hate relationship.
Technical Skill: 9.8
There's no question about skill here. You've definitely shown great attention to detail and the anatomy in the piece is probably some of the best in the contest. The lines are confident, and the shading is excellent and exhibits complex lighting effects. I think the eyes are without a doubt the best of any of the entries. Her hair bow and the beach ball do however, seem a little flat in their shading.
Composition: 9.6
Compositionally this piece is simply excellent. I'm in love with it. The background is very nice. I think the way you've drawn the water makes it look a little too glassy smooth though. It's like it's just a completely flat plane that Maren's hand is going into. Another thing about the piece is it's so very small! It's a piece that is so incredibly beautiful and begs for a closer read. This is one of the few pieces in the contest I would love to see as a print.
Originality: 9.5
There are certainly a lot of "at the beach" pics out there, but honestly I can't think of too many other places for a whale girl to be. I love the design you have for her bikini, and I think the way you've drawn her eyebrow markings is superior even to my design.
Character: 10
I think without a doubt this is probably the most in-character piece of them all. Maren's expression is perfect, and the setting fits very well. She has a very fun-loving, "come play with me" look that is so very much her. I can't think of anything that you could've done that would make this piece say "Maren" any more than it does. FLAWLESS VICTORY of a perfect 10 on character!

Yeeeaah. I'm not gonna lie; I got lazy towards the end of it.
